Inaugural West Region U14 Indoor League Huge Success

A new indoor competition for the west of Scotland, West Region U14 Indoor League, took place over four Sundays from January to March at Hutchesons’ Grammar School in Glasgow.

Formed with seven clubs, (Ayr CC, Clydesdale CC, Ferguslie CC, Glasgow Accies CC, Kilmarnock CC, Poloc CC and Uddingston CC), each team featured seven players and matches lasted for six overs with each team playing a minimum of three matches.

In total, there were 12 matches with 63 players supported by 10 volunteer coaches/umpires and one scorer. The 12 matches led to 1,490 runs scored and 51 wickets taken across the 128 overs bowled throughout the competition.

Glasgow Accies CC and Clydesdale CC both had perfect league records at the end of the competition with four wins out of four, the latter topping the table on net run rate.  However, as both teams had not played each other during the league stage, a grand final was arranged.

This best-of-three contest was won by Clydesdale CC who are the inaugural West Region U14 Indoor League Winners 2019.

Commenting on the successful league, Tim Hart, Participation Manager (West), reflected “Thanks must go to everyone who supported this inaugural league – especially to the players, coaches, officials, volunteers and the Sports Council for Glasgow who contributed towards the cost of hiring the hall through their ‘Sports Promotion Grant Scheme’.

“The competition was requested by players and clubs and it was great to be able to add another, and different, participation opportunity to the range of competitions now available in the West Region. It was great to watch as the players from the seven clubs developed their skills while showing great enthusiasm and enjoying the challenges of this new and modified format.”
