JARVIS DRIVES SCOTS TO VICTORY IN ANTIGUA FINALE

Scotland’s Men’s squad concluded their training camp in Antigua on Wednesday evening with a comprehensive T20 victory against SKN Patriots.

The Scots bowled out their opponents for 134, before chasing down the target in 17.2 overs at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium. Star of the show with both ball and bat was Jack Jarvis, who grabbed four wickets in three overs, before smashing 71 from just 43 balls batting at no.3 to lead the chase for victory – an innings which included 5 sixes.

Overall, the training camp has been a hugely worthwhile exercise for the squad, providing valuable practice and match preparation ahead of the upcoming ICC World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe.

Last week the Scots played two matches with the Leeward Island Hurricanes, before four T20 games this week against SKN Patriots, including last night’s encounter under the floodlights.

Six Scotland players will now stay on in Antigua to compete in the Cool & Smooth T20 competition, with the player draft taking place later today. Two players who were originally due to play in the tournament, George Munsey and Hamza Tahir, will now not feature.

George, who was top run-scorer in last year’s Cool & Smooth T20, suffered a broken hand earlier this week whilst batting and will now undergo a period of recovery and rehabilitation in order to be ready for June’s World Cup Qualifier. Meanwhile Hamza, who’s expressed confidence in his bowling and taken a number of wickets during competitive action in Antigua, is returning home to spend time with his family and celebrate the festival of Eid al-Fitr, as the month of Ramadan ends next week.

New Interim Head Coach Doug Watson joined up with the squad earlier this week and will remain in Antigua to monitor those playing in the Cool & Smooth T20. Doug will oversee the Men’s squad through to the start of August, including the World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe and July’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier which is being hosted in Edinburgh.

The Cool & Smooth T20 begins on Thursday evening. Fans can keep across the fortunes of the Scottish players competing in Antigua via the official tournament media platforms on Instagram and Facebook.
