Michael Carson, on debut, made an instant impression for the Scots as he gave his side a solid start in the first innings after captain Craig Wallace had won the toss and elected to bat.

A win looked unlikely for the MCC as they were dismissed for 122 in their reply, with only Ben Brooks making any meaningful contribution with the bat, scoring 41. The wickets were shared around amongst the bowlers with Ali Evans taking 3/28.
With a first innings lead of 115 the hosts then went about growing their lead in their second innings. Captain Wallace led the way with 87 although the Scots were dealt a blow when Budge was forced to retire hurt on 21.
Evans (19*) and the captain were in the middle when declaring on 181/6 – a lead of 296 – to set the MCC with a big chase to win the game on the final day with 76 overs remaining.
Things looked to be going Scotland’s way as they reduced their opponents to 124/4, however, an important partnership with Ben Brookes (55) and Barrett (78) dragged their side back into contention.
The MCC needed to negotiate some Scottish resistance as they required 49 runs from 51 deliveries and four wickets remaining.
Wicket-keeper Simon Greenall would take the MCC to victory with 25 precious runs as he steered his side over the line with 13 balls remaining.
Scotland ‘A’ will now conclude their season with a three day game away against Northampton 2XI starting on 4th September.
