MORTON AND EDINBURGH ACCIES TO FACE-OFF IN CHALLENGE CUP FINAL

Morton will be targeting a third-straight Cricket Scotland Men’s Challenge Cup crown on Sunday when they face Edinburgh Accies in the final at Freuchie.

ESCA Championship front-runners Morton reached this year’s final having defeated Huntly, Irvine, GHK and, last season’s beaten finalists, Edinburgh South.

Morton’s Senhil Nathan said: “Having won the competition last year, we were very determined to win it again this year. Every game we’ve played in this year’s run was a challenge, so that would make it special if we were to retain the trophy.

“Credit must go to Edinburgh Accies in reaching the final, they’ve always been a difficult opponent to play against and we’re expecting another tough test on Sunday.”

Standing in Morton’s way of a third consecutive title are Edinburgh Accies, who head into the final as underdogs but confident that they can take home the trophy on Sunday.

Their path to the final has seen them overcome Westquarter & Redding, Murrayfield DAFS, Bon Accord and Galloway.

Rajat Wahi said: “We have displayed a great amount of determination and talent to reach this stage, and we’ll be putting everything into Sunday to try and come out on top.

“There is a real buzz and sense of excitement about the club, and we are looking forward to entertaining the crowd on Sunday and leave our mark on this competition.

“Hopefully Sunday will be a day we can look back on in 10 years’ time as one that stands out, and that we can remember with great fondness.

“Every game that we have played in this tournament has been exciting, and we hope Sunday is no different!”

Sunday’s final starts at 12pm and you can follow the action on CSLive.
