Eastern Knights 297/6 Mark Watt 84, Scott McElnea 3/45 beat Western Warriors 278ao De Lange 82, Chayank Gosain 2/36 by 19 runs

Mark Watt emerged as the hero as Eastern Knights launched their Pro Series campaign with a well merited victory over the Western Warriors.

Heriot’s all-rounder Watt thumped a superb 84 and produced a tight bowling spell to set up the 19-run win at Raeburn Place.

His effort with the bat propelled the Knights to 298 for six before the Warriors lost a spate of early wickets in the chase, two of them to catches by new Grange recruit Dylan Budge.Experienced international pair Richie Berrington and Con De Lange not only steadied the ship, they looked like putting their side on course for success.

But the tide turned back in favour of the hosts when Berrington was run out for 59 and De Lange’s stumps were shattered by Chayank Gosain.

Knights will be aiming to complete a quickfire double today (Mon) when they square up to the Caley Highlanders at Forthill.

Highlanders squad: Chris Venske, Ben Wilkinson, Chris Greaves, Safyaan Sharif (C), Aaron Paul, Calum Garden (WK), Scott Cameron, Christian Robertson, Adrian Neill, Brock Ditchmen, Liam Sweeney, Rory Johnston, Ryan Brown.
