Scotland today secured its first win of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup with a comfortable win over the United Arab Emirates at Witrand Oval.
Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, the first time of the tournament, the UAE side posted a respectable 249 after being reduced to 164/7 at one stage thanks to Danny Cairns taking 4/32 for the young Scots.
Uzzair Shah (71), promoted to the top of the order, joined forces with Ben Davidson (36) to get Scotland’s run chase off to a perfect start and put on 90 runs for the first wicket before the latter fell to an unfortunate run-out.
Scotland’s number three, Tom Mackintosh, hit form to reach 57 with skipper Angus Guy notching 43* and hitting the winning runs in the 45th over to secure the 7-wicket win.
Scotland’s next fixture comes against Sri Lanka on Thursday at North West University Oval.
