Scotland to host USA and UAE at Mannofield for the CWCL2 series in August

Cricket Scotland announced today that Mannofield, the home of Aberdeenshire CC, will host CWCL2 series 12 this August. Mannofield last hosted the CWCL2 series in 2019, welcoming visitors Papua New Guinea and Oman. This summer, the United Arab Emirates will make their fourth visit to Scotland, while the United States will venture across the pond for the very first time.

USA will make their first appearance in an international cricket match in Scotland

Aberdeenshire CC President, Willie Donald, is “delighted to be hosting a round of CWCL2 at Mannofield.” For him, “the arrival of two strong teams from the USA and UAE will provide excellent opposition to our equally strong Scotland squad. We expect great interest in the six one-day internationals given Aberdeen’s long and deep relationships with both the USA and UAE. With all three teams fighting for qualification for the 2023 World Cup, we expect fireworks on the field.”

So far, the UAE’s experience of Scotland has been dampened, not only by the weather but also strong performances from the Scottish side. Only forty-eight overs were bowled across four days on their first visit to a rainy New Cambusdoon, Ayr, in June 2007. Again, the weather got the better of the four-day Intercontinental Cup game between the UAE and Scotland in 2016, but the two one-day ICC WCL Championship matches were played in full. Scotland powered to 327 for 5 in the first game, thanks to centuries from Kyle Coetzer and Preston Mommsen taking the team to a ninety-eight-run win. Calum MacLeod’s century in the second game enabled Scotland to take another win.

Scotland finished one win each against UAE on the most recent tour to the USA

After Scotland’s historic visit to the US in May, during which Kyle Coetzer announced his 110th match as captain would be his last at the national helm, and one win and one loss against the USA team, Donald is right to predict fireworks in what is anticipated to be an exciting series.

Tickets for the matches will go on sale in June.
