Captain Katherine Fraser said: “I’m extremely excited to be a part of this Scotland U19s team who have the opportunity to qualify for the inaugural U19 Women’s World Cup.

We’ve got a young and exciting group, with many players contributing stand out performances in the Women’s Premier League and regional competition, along with a few others from different setups who have fitted into the group really well.

I’m incredibly honoured to have been given the chance to captain the side and hopefully some of the learnings I have taken from playing senior international cricket can help to further develop this U19s team.

The ICC’s introduction of this tournament, is a great step forward for women’s cricket, especially as it involves 16 teams. This will provide a chance for associate nations to test themselves against strong oppositions from countries with full member status. Additionally, it gives young players the valuable opportunity to experience international cricket before making their senior debuts.”

Head Coach Peter Ross said: “Having the opportunity to play age-group international cricket and compete in an Under 19 World Cup Qualifying event is an exciting step in the development of Cricket Scotland’s female pathway. Fundamentally, within the pathway, we are looking to develop cricketers who can go on to represent the senior national squad in years to come – this World Cup Qualifier will provide some great experiences for those players who have been selected to take part and will challenge them as they continue on their development journeys.

The squad will be led by Katherine Fraser, with Ailsa Lister supporting as vice-captain. Both of those players have a significant amount of National team experience and will be looking to lead by example and pass on the valuable experiences and learnings that they have had within that senior environment.”
