The Scotland under 21s take to the pitch for the first time this summer on Wednesday, looking to carry forward the momentum that has been built up by the Wildcats in recent weeks.

This year the under 21 programme has been expanded from three games to ten, incorporating matches against academy and national sides. Wednesday sees them take on the Eastern Knights under 14 boys team at Livingston Cricket Club. The squad played matches against these regional teams last year and found them hugely beneficial.

Abtaha Maqsood will lead a squad which has four players heading to Holland next week for the World T20 qualifiers, as well as a raft of regional players from the Eagles and the Stormers. Head coach Gordon Allan is looking forward to the summer challenges:

“I think it is excellent that we have managed to expand our under 21 programme this year. Keeping this group of players in our pathway is so important in building a larger playing group for the senior national side moving forward. We have matches not only against the boys regional academies, but also Durham Academy, Ireland Academy and Germany women. It promises to be an exciting and challenging summer.”
