Scotland welcome FairBreak to Edinburgh

Cricket Scotland is delighted to welcome a FairBreak Global Invitational XI for three T20s this week versus a Scotland XI at the Grange in Edinburgh.

FairBreak is a powerful movement that champions gender equality and opportunities across the world.  Recently Kathryn and Sarah Bryce both played a part in the FairBreak Invitational T20 in May of this year in Dubai which hosted some of the best players in the world.

The games kick off a crucial period for the Scotland women’s team who also host Ireland in a three match series before heading off to the World Cup Qualifiers in the UAE.

26th August – Fairbreak Global – T20 at 2:30pm (The Grange)
28th August – Fairbreak Global – 2 T20s at 10:30am & 2:30pm (The Grange)

Entry to all games are free.

Captain Katie McGill said, “Leading the Scotland team, like most of my cricket career, is not an opportunity I expected to have but I’m excited and proud to be given this chance and to have the backing of our coaches in a leadership role.

“The squad has a brilliant mix of supportive senior players and girls coming in off the back of fantastic performances in the U19s. It’s going to be a lot of fun bringing that all together, especially on home soil.

“With this series also forming the first part of our build up to the WCQ, being at the helm is an incredible opportunity to be a part of setting the tone for how we want to approach our cricket throughout the qualifiers and the Ireland series. We saw the U19s dominate with positive, brave and exciting cricket and that is a principle at our core throughout the women’s setup. I can’t wait for us to take the game on.

“Being at the Grange for both the Fairbreak and Ireland series is huge for us. To be playing on high quality pitches, at venues we know spectators have great experiences at is vital for growing the women’s game and showcasing the skills the squad have at their best.

“It ties in with the platform Fairbreak are creating for women’s cricket and comes at a time when women’s team sports are gaining real momentum and traction such as Scotland women’s rugby recently qualifying for their world cup and gaining professional contracts.

“If we can be a part of this shift our own way, it’s going to be amazing for those involved now but even more so for the next generation to come!”
