SCOTLAND WOMEN DEFEAT NETHERLANDS TO SEAL SERIES VICTORY

Scotland defeated the Netherlands by 34 runs to make it two wins in as many days, and seal the HCLTech Women’s ODI Tri-Series title.

Scotland posted 187 batting first, with Saskia Horley (43), Katherine Fraser (39) and Priyanaz Chatterji (33) all making important contributions, before the Netherlands were bowled out for 153, as Fraser, Chatterji and Abtaha Maqsood all picked up two wickets apiece.

Interim Women’s Head Coach Craig Wallace said: “It’s brilliant to get another series win, we’ve improved a lot through the week.

“We were probably under par at the start of the week having not played for a wee while, but it’s really pleasing how much we grew, this group’s done amazing stuff over the last few months and this is another really good experience which hopefully leads onto more exciting things.”

Winning the toss and batting, Scotland got off to a disastrous start as Abbi Aitken-Drummond fell without scoring, run out in the second over after superb work from Carlijn Koolwijk.

Saskia Horley and Darcey Carter added 38 for the second wicket, but Carter would fall for 12, caught at the wicket by Babette de Leede off Eva Lynch as she looked to cut.

Horley continued her fine form, following knocks of 100 and 71* in the series so far, looking to use her feet against the spinners at every opportunity.

However, she would fall short of another half-century, trapped LBW for 43 as she went back to a delivery from Caroline Lange.

Chloe Abel (9), promoted up the order, would depart soon after, bowled by an unplayable delivery from Silver Siegers.

Lorna Jack-Brown was positive from the moment she entered the contest, striking her first ball to the boundary, and reached 23 from just 19 deliveries before coming unstuck, caught by Annemijn Buege off Siegers.

Chatterji and Fraser would take their side past 150, adding 41 before Chatterji fell LBW to Lynch for 33.

Fraser would look to accelerate as Scotland targeted a score of over 200 but, having taken the total to 178, she fell for 39, caught by Hannah Landheer off the bowling of Iris Zwilling.

That would be the crucial wicket for the Dutch, as Scotland slipped from 178-6 to 187 all out, Beuge taking the final three wickets to wrap-up the innings.

Scotland, having failed to defend 180 in their first meeting with the Netherlands, knew they needed a good start, and they got exactly that when Gabriella Fontenla struck in the opening over, removing De Leede as Olivia Bell took a sharp catch on the leg-side.

Bell herself would strike to remove De Leede’s opening partner Phebe Molkenboer (9), who was bowled attempting to pull.

Scotland continued to chip away whilst keeping the scoring rate in check, Chatterji trapping Robine Rijke (11) LBW, before Abtaha Maqsood struck twice to reduce the Netherlands to 65-5.

Buege and Frederique Overdijk began to rebuild the innings, and added 26 before sharp work in the field from Darcey Carter saw Buege run out for 30.

Overdijk (34) continued to lead the Dutch fightback, alongside Lange, as the pair took their side within 50 of the Scotland total when Chatterji made the crucial breakthrough to remove Overdijk.

Lynch would then fall for just two, bowled by Fraser, and when Lange felt for 33, Carter once again creating the run out opportunity, the Netherlands’ hopes were slipping away.

And the Scotland victory would be wrapped-up in quick fashion, Fraser bowling Siegers to seal a 34-run win.

SCORECARD.
