Scotland XI draw series with Fairbreak XI

After Friday’s T20 was abandoned due to rain, the sun shone on the Grange as the spoils were shared at at yesterdays back to back T20 series between a Scotland Women’s XI and the Fairbreak International XI.

In the morning T20, Scotland started confidently with a run a ball until Aitken-Drummond was run out on 16 in the 4th. Scotland moved to 58 until Lister was run out on 26. Glen went two balls later and Fairbreak continued with timely wickets reducing Scotland to 127.

Fairbreak started strongly with 13 in the first over and reached 27 until Chatterji struck taking the wicket of Hill after a McColl catch. The Scottish bowlers struggled to make a breakthrough until the 11th when Haggo bowled Dowse on 36.

Fairbreak upped their run rate and it was left to Avery to win the match in the 20th having needed one run from the over.

In the 2nd match, Scotland once again batted first however looked far more focused on upping the run rate as Lister and Aitken-Drummond moved the score to 39 in the first four overs before Aitken-Drummond was bowled by Shukla.

Scotland kept the scoreboard ticking over and reached 158 with one ball left in the innings.

Fairbreak began the chase very strongly reaching 30 in three overs however Chatterji and Bell slowed them down before Dowse was dismissed after a McColl run out. Farooq claimed her first wicket in the 9th and followed up with wickets in the 11th and 13th slowing down Fairbreak’s chase.

Bell took her first wicket in the 12th and Scotland looked on top after a brilliant 14th over from Rainey giving up only two runs. Fairbreak could not up the required run rate and although hey finished strongly with 33 runs off the last three overs, it was always going to be a struggle as Scotland triumphed by 11 runs.
