Scots set up for final showdown against UAE

Scotland will face UAE tomorrow (Wednesday 30th October) at Dubai International Stadium in a winner-takes-all clash after Netherlands ran out 8-wicket winners today at the same venue.

Netherlands, finishing second place in Group A, faced UAE, finishing third in Group B, for the fixture which saw qualification to the Men’s T20 World Cup for the winner and another bite at the cherry for the loser.

Finishing fourth in Group A, Scotland will now face UAE for their first and only attempt – and UAE’s second – at 10:00 UK time on Sky Sports Cricket.

Commenting on the fixture, head coach Shane Burger said: “We have a determined and experienced group of players that want to showcase their skills on a world stage.

“The tournament has tested us in various departments but we have an opportunity to qualify for a World Cup which we will not need any more motivation for than there already is.

UAE will be tough opponents and after their loss today vs the Netherlands, [UAE] become even more dangerous than before. It should be a tough encounter but one we are ready for.”

The winner of the fixture not only secures qualification to the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia this time next year, but will also progress to the 5th and 6th play-off game on Thursday 31st October.
