For the twelve schools taking part in this years Inspiresport Scottish Schools Cup Finals day, sunblock and hydration were the essential ingredients to get through the day.
At Fettes for the Girls U18 finals, it was the hosts who came out on top versus GWC, in an entertaining final. Batting first they posted a healthy 101 in their 10 overs. GWC started the chase strongly reaching 55/1 after 5 overs, however a number of quick wickets fell and they just fell short reaching 91.
Earlier in the morning, Fettes had defeated Mary Erskine by 46 runs in the first semi-final whilst iin the other semi, GWC won through versus Loretto by 10 wickets.
The Boys U18 and U15 finals took place at Myreside and Craiglockart in the south side of the city meaning an early departure for Gordonians travelling down from Aberdeen.
In the Boys U15 semi-finals, hosts GWC posted 274/5 including a 265 partnership from Stronach (141) and King (106) and were too strong for Strathallan’s reply of 153/5. Robert Gordon’s looked impressive in the other semi final scoring 203/1 and bowled out Stewart’s Melville for 145.
GWC batted first in the final reaching an impressive 224 and then bowled out Robert Gordon’s for 98.
In the Boys U18 event, Merchiston reached 207/5 in their semi-final win versus Strahtallan who reached 143/8. In the 2nd semi-final, High School of Glasgow scored 142 with Stewart’s Melville reaching the chase with 7 wickets remaining.
The final, played on the main square at Myreside, produced an impressive and exciting game of cricket. Merchiston reached 180/8 in their 20 overs and despite a spirited chase in the middle of their innings, Stewart’s Melville were bowled out for 139.
