The Wee Bash #3.4

The Wee Bash #3.4

On Sunday 19th of January at Broughton High School in Edinburgh, the first Wee Bash of 2020 took place. A total of 13 teams took part in the social and competitive tournaments. 

The first tournament had a record 7 teams enter – we welcomed Uddingston CC, Stewarts Melville CC/Mary Erskine School, East Kilbride CC, Forfarshire CC, Clydesdale CC, Edinburgh South CC and newcomers, Callander CC, who made their debut at the tournament. The tournament was split into two round robins with a chance to compete in random games at the end. Congratulations to all those that entered and thank you to all the scorers and umpires on the day!

The second tournament involved 6 teams competing in a double round-robin to win The Wee Bash #3.4. Teams in hall 1: Edinburgh University CC Blue, Galloway CC and Carlton CC. Teams in hall 2: Watsonians CC, Stirling CCC, Edinburgh University CC Green. 

Hall 1: Carlton CC managed to scoop 3 wins in their group putting them top of the leader board and into the finals with the winner from the second group. Edinburgh University CC Blue achieved two wins – one against Carlton CC and one against Galloway CC, pushing them to second place. Galloway CC came shortly behind with a 9 run lead against Edinburgh University Blue, winning one game. 

In Hall 2, Watsonians CC took pole position in their group with 3 wins – one win against Stirling CCC and two against Edinburgh University CC Green. With equal scores Edinburgh University CC Green and Stirling CCC competed to play in the 3rd and 4th playoffs. Stirling managed a 3 run win against Edinburgh University CC Green putting them into the playoffs against Edinburgh University CC Blue who were second place in hall 1. 

3rd and 4th playoff had Edinburgh University CC Blue V Stirling CCC. Stirling CCC batted first with Fiore scoring 22 runs to lead the team to a total of 41 runs for Edinburgh to chase. Kathryn Sharkey of Edinburgh University CC Green smashed a total of 28 runs with 3 sixes and 1 four. A partnership with Sonya led Edinburgh to a total 43 chasing down the total with 2 overs spare and allowing the side to take 3rd place of the tournament. 

The final saw Carlton CC bat first with high scorer Gabby taking 22 runs for her side. Consistent wickets taken by Watsonians left a combined effort by Carlton CC to a total of 38 runs for Watsonians to chase. Bel, opening for Watsonians CC smashed 3 sixes in her innings taking 27 runs for her side. The final 6 was scored by Vic to take the total to 41 runs for Watsonians making them the winners of The Wee Bash #3.4. Congratulations on their first win of 2020! Again, a big thank you to the RAF for their support and entertainment in sponsoring The Wee Bash! 

Well done to all teams! The next Wee Bash is at Holyrood Sports Complex in Glasgow on the 9th of February.
