U19s make it two in a row with victory over the Netherlands in Men’s U19 World Cup qualifier

Scotland maintained the momentum from their victory over Jersey on Monday to take another confident win over the Netherlands today in the ICC Men’s U19 World Cup qualifiers in Desert Springs.

Scotland won by six wickets against the Dutch to maintain their unbeaten record going into Thursday’s crucial match against Ireland.

After a short delay for rain, the Netherlands won the toss and batted first, but the Scotland bowling attack which had been so successful against Jersey continued to impress as they bowled out their opponents for 110. Player of the Match Charlie Peet took 2 for 7, Ollie Davidson 3 for 28, Sean Fischer-Keogh 2 for 16 and Lyle Robertson 2 for 22.

It took Scotland just 27.4 overs to chase down the 111 run target with Tom Mackintosh (24) and Sam Elstone (23) leading the way.

Scotland Lead Coach Cedric English was pleased with the performance but sees areas that the team can work on ahead of Thursday’s match against Ireland: “It was another good win for us today. The consistency was excellent. There are certain things that we can continue to work on and improve, We could probably have kept them down to under 100, but that’s looking at small margins, Overall it was a good effort and some good catches in the field.

“I thought our approach to chasing 110 was good. The opening partnership stood us in good stead. We lost more wickets than we would have liked in terms of a chase of 110, but we got over the line and we’re two from two going into the game against the Irish. We’ve got a day off tomorrow to regroup and look at that game in a little more detail.”
