Scotland women’s under 21s this week embark on a series of seven matches in the space of eight days, the first three of which take place in the borders this week. Durham Academy come to visit Kelso CC on Wednesday 1stAugust for a 45 over match, before we welcome the German national women’s team to Gala CC for two T20s on Friday 3rdAugust.
Having played two matches so far this season against the East and West regional boys under 14 teams, head coach Gordon Allan is looking forward to his squad playing against other females. “The games against the boys were brilliant, and tend to stretch the squad a little outside of their comfort zone, which is no bad thing.”
“However, we are looking forward to now testing ourselves against other female cricketers, and it is brilliant that we have been able to put such an expansive programme in place for the summer which includes nine games in total. We welcome back into the squad some of our senior wildcats, who have been unavailable so far due to commitments with the national team. This will undoubtedly boost the experience and skillset of the group for these matches.”
With the German team touring the north of England, Steven Knox – head coach of both the Wildcats and the German men’s team – was able to make us aware of this, and the opportunity to play against a national team was taken with both hands.
Abtaha Maqsood will captain the squad this week, with Sarah Bryce acting as her deputy. Ellen Watson & Laura Grant will also return this week, having been involved in the World T20 qualifier in Holland.
