Cricket Scotland continues to engage with the independent review into racism within Scottish cricket being conducted by Plan4sport. We recognise that sportscotland will hold Cricket Scotland to account on the final recommendations of the independent report and we will embrace these recommendations to ensure that cricket within Scotland becomes more inclusive, welcoming and open to all. We fully acknowledge there is racism within the game and are truly sorry that anyone has suffered racism or any form of discrimination.
In the past month a number of meetings have been held between the two organisations and Cricket Scotland staff have welcomed the opportunity to speak to the review team which will continue over the following months. Cricket Scotland has also been directly in touch with past and present members of the Scottish cricketing community to encourage those affected to come forward and share their experiences to help improve the sport. This has included our pathway and performance players, club members from the 132 clubs that play in domestic leagues and 460 CS members.
Our most recent statement in regards to the review is as follows:
“We fully acknowledge there is racism within the game and are truly sorry that anyone has suffered racism or any form of discrimination. Cricket Scotland will embrace the recommendations from the independent report and ensure that cricket within Scotland becomes more inclusive, welcoming and open to all.
We are fully engaging with the Plan4Sport review, which we believe is the correct independent context for discussions on racism and all areas of discrimination to take place.
We are listening and want to understand how we can meaningfully make things better and we urge people to engage with Plan4Sport.
We would urge anyone who has experienced or witnessed racism, inequalities or discrimination within Scottish cricket to contact firstname.lastname@example.org in the first instance. All contacts will be treated confidentially and will be responded to by the independent review team.”
