Westquarter & Redding Cricket Club win Local Club of the Year at Scottish Sports Awards

Congratulations are in order for Westquarter & Redding Cricket Club after it picked up the award for Local Club of the Year at the sportscotland Scottish Sports Awards held on Thursday 5th December in Glasgow.

Awarded due to the club’s “impressive community work and approach to inclusiveness”, Westquarter & Redding Cricket Club has also been given a special mention for its effort in taking members from 40 to over 200 in four years.

Not only has the club increased membership, the club self-funded and project managed a childrenโ€™s nursery built within the club grounds which enables over 70 families to return to work by providing the community with a much-needed facility. In addition, it employs 20 people all from the local area โ€“ bringing employment to the local community.

The 52 place nursery also generates important income to make the club financially secure and allow investment in the club and beyond.

In 2016, Westquarter & Redding CC won Cricket Scotland’s Most Welcoming Cricket Club award, largely down to their transformative work with their junior section – taking it from 20 juniors to 118 with programmes such as All Stars (5 to 8), Westies (8 to 10), Junior 1 (11 to 12) and Junior 2 (13 to 14).

The club also self-funded the purchase of a table tennis table and table cricket set to support children and adults with disabilities allowing them to take part in table cricket. Westquarter & Redding CC has also organised several table cricket events in conjunction with Forth Valley Disability Sports and Cricket Scotland to further remove barriers to participation.
