Must-win Bank Holiday clash

The Western Warriors and Caledonian Highlanders go into Monday’s bank holiday clash at Titwood knowing that a win is essential if they are to keep up with the pace-setting Eastern Knights and give themselves a chance of landing the inaugural Cricket Scotland Regional Series title.

The Warriors name an unchanged twelve for this game but are sweating over the fitness of captain Qasim Sheikh, who sustained a shoulder injury in the away defeat to the Knights last weekend. The Highlanders, however, have made two changes, with Ryan Watson and Gordon Goudie available again to add much-needed experience to their youthful team.

The match, which is the first game of its kind to be played on a bank holiday in Scotland, starts at 12 noon. Admission to the game at Clydesdale CC is free of charge.

The squads for Monday’s match are as follows:

Western Warriors:  Qasim Sheikh (captain, Clydesdale); Douglas Lockhart+, Ian Young, Moneeb Iqbal, Ian Cran (West of Scotland); Omer Hussain, Majid Haq (Clydesdale); Richie Berrington, Kevin McLaren, Willie Rowan (Greenock); Neil Laidlaw (York); Andi McElnea (Ayr)

Caledonian Highlanders: Jan Stander (captain, Stoneywood-Dyce); Freddie Coleman (Penicuik); Matthew Parker, Craig Wallace, Ryan Watson (Forfarshire); Calvin Burnett, Marc Petrie+, Craig Ramsay (Arbroath United); Tyler Buchan (Aberdeenshire); Graeme Tomlinson (Aberdeenshire); Gordon Goudie (West of Scotland); Gavin Hamilton (East Brierley)
