Scots off to perfect start in European U15 Championships

Defending champions Scotland opened this year’s European Under-15 1st Division Championships in Dundee with a convincing win, over Guernsey by eight wickets at Forthill.

Scotland put Guernsey into bat and the decision was justified very early on as opener Damarell was dismissed without scoring. A couple more wickets fell before Kirk joined opener Waldon at the crease. They built a vital partnership together playing brilliant shots and taking on the Scottish bowling attack. The partnership was broken just 2 runs shy of the 100 when Kirk hit one straight back to Andrew Umeed, the bowler.

Scotland then came back fighting when their two opening bowlers returned. George Buchannan-Smith and Lyle Hill produced a spell of seam bowling which tore through the Guernsey batting taking the last 6 wickets for just one run, with Guernsey finishing on 162 all out.

Scotland kept their momentum going with the bat and got off to a great start with the two openers Ross McLean, the Scottish captain, and Danial Chaudhry going after the Guernsey bowling. Both players reached their half-century, McLean’s off 60 balls and Chaudhry’s off 47 balls. But neither were able to go on to the end, with Hutchinson taking their wickets. Nick Farrar and Zander Muir saw Scotland to the end with 16.4 overs to spare.

In the other games, Jersey delivered a 68-run shock victory over Ireland, while the Netherlands defeated Denmark by 31 runs.
