The top four teams in each pool progress to the Super Eights stage of the competition, while the other four teams play off for a ranking place. Note that none of the matches in the Super Eights have official One-Day International status, as the venue logistics involved was not achievable in practical terms.
The teams in the Super Eights phase play the four teams from the other pool, and bring forward the points they gained from the matches played against opponents in their own pool. Teams are then ranked according to the total points collected.
And on finals day (April 19), the top two teams play each other for a final global ranking, the next two teams also play each other for 3rd/4th place, all these four teams qualifying for the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.
The next two teams play off for 5th/6th place, but both are retained within the ICC's High Performance set-up, with One-Day International status. The lowest two teams from the Super Eights phase play off for the 7th/8th place and subsequent global ranking.
