The groups for the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier due to be held in Dubai from the 13- 24 March 2012 have been announced by the ICC today.
The competition will see 16 Associate nations compete in 56 group stage matches, for two available berths in the ICC T20 World Cup, to be held in Sri Lanka in August 2012.
Scotland’s fixtures will take place at the two ICC Global Cricket Academy ovals, Dubai Sports City Stadium, Abu Dhabi at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium and one at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium
Scotland’s campaign will begin against Kenya before taking on Namibia, Uganda and Oman.
On the 18 March Scotland will meet Celtic rivals Ireland at the Dubai Sports City, before concluding their group stage matches against Italy and the USA.
It will be a physically tough tournament for all the participating teams, with only two rest days in the group stages will see every nation play seven games in eight days, before the playoff stages.
The two group winners will go straight into the elimination final with the winner securing one of two berths in Sri Lanka. The second- and third-placed sides will then go head to head in playoff matches for the right to meet the loser of the elimination final for the second qualifying berth.
Scotland coach Pete Steindl said “The boys are really looking forward to the challenges ahead. The squad will be putting in some real hard graft over the next few months to prepare for these Qualifiers. It will be a tough competition where every game is crucial.”
