BBC’s Festival of Sport comes to Aberdeen

Cricket Scotland is excited that Aberdeen will host the inaugural BBC Festival of Sport, which gives people the chance to try out a variety of sports including cricket, to coincide with BBC Sports Personality of the Year held at the P&J Live Arena.

Taking place on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 December at Aberdeen Sports Village, the event offers locals the chance to participate in cricket and other sports, witness an Eoin Morgan masterclass and meet Scotland internationals.

The Festival of Sport will first open its doors to local primary and secondary school children on Friday 13 December. They will have the opportunity to take part in all of the sports available, as well as other activities such as Q&As with sporting heroes, a CBBC’s Jamie Johnson 5-A-Side Challenge and much more.

Saturday 14 December will host a family-fun day that’s open to the general public, with the ability to participate in CricHIIT – a fitness-adapted cricket programme – in the morning before having a go at cricket in the afternoon with our batting, bowling and fielding stations. You can even watch a cricket masterclass with England limited-overs captain Eoin Morgan and ex-World Cup winner Ebony Rainford-Brent.

Tony McKenna, Cricket Scotland’s Aberdeenshire Development Officer, said: “The Festival of Sport is a great opportunity for over 750 local school children and the general public to experience a wide range of different sporting activities.

As a Governing Body it is a fantastic event to be involved in as it will provide the opportunity to promote cricket to a wider audience who may have never experienced the game before.

It’s also a once-in-a-lifetime chance for 20 boys and girls from the Caledonian Highlanders to take part in an Eoin Morgan and Ebony Rainford-Brent masterclass which will no doubt provide the young cricketers with lifelong memories of the game. We can’t wait for the event to kick off on Friday 13th December.”
