I have been Cricket Scotland’s DO and now Community Development Manager in the Scottish Borders since February 2004. Although the birthplace of organised cricket in Scotland the Border League is no longer the force it once was. Yet, through the committed work of the local council – cricket is one of its 9 target sports – and 9-club cricket development group the junior game has never been healthier; all Border clubs have thriving junior sections most run two teams, some have combined to run a third and for the second consecutive year 120+ boys and girls will take part in the Area Squad pre-season trials and training.
My cricketing story starts at Primary School in Wiltshire when, at the age of 7, a weathered red cork cricket ball was thrust into my hand and I proceeded to hit the stumps three times with my first three deliveries! I was hooked and cricket has been a life long passion ever since.
As a Warwickshire CCC fan I lay the blame firmly at the late (great) Bob Woolmer’s feet for my getting into coaching (also for my seam bowling, but sadly not my batting!) which has led me to becoming an ECB CA Tutor and working with our National Women’s squads.
