Clubs encouraged to apply for The Business Support Scheme

The one-off grants, which are being provided through local authorities on behalf of the Scottish Government, offer a £10,000 grant to ratepayers of small businesses with £25,000 available to businesses with a rateable value between £18.001 and £50,999.

Falkland CC was recently successful in receiving a £10,000 grant from the fund accessed through Fife Council.

Club President Robbie Nellies was impressed with how straightforward the process was saying “’After establishing that the club met the criteria for a Small Business Support Grant it was then a very simple and straightforward process from start to finish.”

All we had to do was to complete a short application form downloaded from the local council website and then e-mail this to them along with a copy of a recent bank statement. This only took about 15 minutes to complete.”

Other clubs in Scotland have had success in applying for the higher value grant of £25,000 including Dumfries Cricket Club, which is part of a wider Dumfries Sports Club.

Chair of the Club Andy Reed said “The process was very simple and as a Sports Club committee we acted very quickly to apply knowing that demand would be high from businesses across the region.  Our Treasurer and Secretary led the completion of the relevant application which was fairly simple as it only required basic information which the club were able to access quickly.”

Andy encourages all clubs to contact their local authority to enquire about eligibility for the grant scheme.

“Payment was through within 10 days for the full £25k.  This grant will be critical for the sports club to enable us to cover some of the ongoing overheads which we are committed to paying.  It will also support some of the loss of income we may expect from the bar and memberships renewals.”

Other clubs throughout the country including Greenock, Ferguslie and Prestwick have also received grants.

Further information on applying for these grants is available here and for further information on COVID-19 related funding please visit the dedicated page on the Cricket Scotland website here.
