Scottish cricket received further accolades last night as the Men’s international team received the “Inspirational Performance of the Year” award at the SportScotland Scottish Sports Awards in Glasgow.

Awarded in recognition of their record-breaking performance against England this year in June, this completes an incredible season for the team who earlier this year picked up the Team Scotland award for “Sporting Moment of the Year.”

Speaking on behalf of the team at the awards dinner, Mark Watt said “We don’t often get the chance to play the top sides in the world so it was an amazing experience taking on the world no 1’s the year.” He added “It’s also pretty special getting one over the Auld Enemy.”

Scotland had been shortlisted alongside the national rugby team for their performance versus England in the Calcutta Cup match and Scottish cyclist Mark Stewart for his gold medal in the Commonwealth Games Cycling Points Race.

Simon Smith, Cricket Scotland’s High Performance Manager said “This is a great way to end the year for Scottish cricket and the fact we have now been recognised for two major Scottish sporting awards demonstrates that our goal for cricket to become mainstream in Scotland is both the right direction to take and totally achievable.”
