2015 Cricket Factory Cup - West Qualifier
Titwood (Clydesdale CC) hosted the West Regional Qualifying Tournament in the 2015 Cricket Factory Schools’ Cup, on Tuesday 12th May 2015. The competition, based around a modified (and shortened) format of the sport, was played using a windball and saw 86 pupils from seven different schools participate.
The morning session saw the nine teams split into three groups of three. The format was a round robin, with each team having one match off to develop their skills (and have some fun) using a Cricket Factory Core Skills Set.
The morning groups were won by KyleAcademy (Ayrshire), LangholmAcademy (Dumfries & Galloway) and team 1 from St Ninian’s High School (East Renfrewshire).
The afternoon session again took a round robin format. Team 2 from St Ninian’s High School won Group 3 and MearnsCastleHigh School (East Renfrewshire) won Group 2. In Group 1, St Ninian’s and Kyle both defeated Langholm to set up a winner-takes-all grand final. Batting first, Kyle lost three wickets but generally rotated the strike well and hit the ‘scoring zone’ for 10 runs on one occasion. They finished on 126 after their 8 overs. In reply, St Ninian’s never really got going, losing 7 wickets on the way to finishing on 78.
The final standings on the day were:
1) Kyle Academy
2) St Ninian’s High School 1
3) Langholm Academy
4) Mearns Castle High School
5) St Ninian’s High School 3
6) Holyrood Secondary School
7) St Ninian’s High School 2
8) Barrhead High School
9) Eastwood High School
The day would not have been possible without the support of Clydesdale CC (and particularly of Groundsman Cyril McLatchie), the support staff from each school and the effort and enthusiasm from all the pupils. Thanks must go to all of these people for ensuring such a successful day of cricket – and best wishes go to Kyle Academy as they go on to represent the West Region at National Finals’ Day, in June.
