2015 CS Secondary School Competition

This year’s competition saw a marked increase in the number of entrants taking part in the regional qualifiers. The finalists coming from (East) Merchiston Castle School (West) Hutchesons’ Grammar School (North) Arbroath High School and (South Caledonia) Glenalmond College.

The draw for the semi-finals saw Glenalmond College play Merchiston Castle and Arbroath High School play Hutcheson’s Grammar.

In the first semi-final, Glenalmond College bowled Merchiston Castle out for 84 and then knocked the required runs off for the loss of four wickets.

In the second semi-final, Arbroath High School amassed 130 for five with contributions from B. Plomer 46, D. Sinclair 30, A. Brewer 37 with Gaurav helping to keep the Arborath batsmen in check taking 3-19. In reply Hutchenson Grammar made a valiant reply eventually failing 18 runs short.

The third verses fourth playoff match saw Hutchesons’ grammar batting first with Merchiston Castle bowling them out for 57 with B. Dickson 26* providing resistance to the Merchiston attack. In reply Merchiston lost two wickets knocking off the required runs.

In the final Arbroath High School amassed 71 with W. Laird keeping the Arbroath batsman in check taking 3 for 8. In reply Glenalmond College knocked the required runs off losing three wickets in the process, and being crowned the 2015 Cricket Scotland Secondary Schools champions. Glenalmond College have now won the competition four times in the last five years.

Tournament organiser Ian Shaw commented ‘Once again this competition has proved a big success with entrants increasing from last year. A big thank you must go to all the schools which have entered, the umpires, scorers and grounds-man which have helped made this tournament the success that it is. Commiserations must go to Arbroath High School and coagulations to Glenalmond College’.
