3 Scottish Officials named on ICC Umpire panel

20 Apr

Scotland will have three officials of the ICC Associate and Affiliate Panel after Alex Dowdalls was named alongside Ian Ramage and Allan Haggo on the International Umpire Panel.

There have been a number of changes to the ICC Officials Panels that makes the elevation of Alex to join his existing colleagues on the panel an important announcement.

Ian Ramage, who has been established on the panel for a number of years and Allan Haggo (elevated in 2014) are joined by Alex Dowdalls who a member of the West of Scotland Association of Cricket Officials (WoSACO).

Alex has already stood in a number of high profile matches, including onfield with Ian Ramage in 2013 at the Grange for the 4-day international between Scotland and Australia 'A' and also stood in the Scotland v New Zealand 'A' and three 50 over matches between Scotland and Netherlands.

Ian Ramage continues to impress on the international stage and following his involvement at the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers in 2015 in Ireland and Scotland was the only umpire from an ICC Associate Member Country to be selected to officiate at the ICC 2015 Under 19 Cricket World Cup in Bangladesh. Ian has a busy 2016 summer ahead of him, in addition to him standing in Scotland domestic, regional and international matches has a full programme of activity in the English County 2nd XI set up.

During November and December 2015 Allan Haggo stood in the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 Qualifiers in Thailand and helped form a tournament panel of umpires alongside some of the top female officials in the game such as Kathy Cross and Clare Polosak, both of who moved on to officiate in the full ICC Women’s WT20 event in India earlier this year.

On his promotion to the panel Alex Dowdalls said: "I am absolutely thrilled and delighted to have been nominated by Cricket Scotland and accepted by ICC to be part of the expanded A&A global international panel. I have had the benefit of so much advice and mentoring over my many years in umpiring and would like to express my thanks especially to Mac Wylie, Sandy Scotland, Ian Ramage, Ireland's Paddy O'Hara, England's Rob Bailey,  and the late Bill Smith, who have been paramount in my progression. I would  like to thank ICC tournament referees David Jukes and Trevor Magee, who have also been a fantastic support over the years as well as Graham Cooper, the former ICC Europe Regional Umpire Manager, who's assessments were invaluable."

Recent developments in Scotland have also seen successful developments for the game with a new Domestic Officials Committee that helps provide the strategic direction and leadership for the recruitment, development and appointments of all cricket officials in Scotland.

Cricket Scotland congratulate Alex, Ian and Allan on their appointments.
