Another success for Live Active 'No Limits' team

08 May

The Live Active Leisure ‘No Limits’ Cricket Team enjoyed a very successful trip to Manchester last weekend to play in the Cricket Federation for People with Disabilities (CFPD) tri-nations tournament at the international cricket venue at Old Trafford.

This was the third time the team has taken part in the event and they played in a mixed category against players from England and Wales.

In a tightly contested match, the No Limits team captain, Emily Gibson, won the toss and opted to bat first. The Perth and Kinross players got off to a steady start with Phillip Still and Andrew Sinclair opening the batting taking the score to a very respectable seventeen after four overs. Christopher Marshall and James Sloan then accelerated the score adding a further 44 runs.

Dougie Wright added a quick fire 17 before captain Emily Gibson, batting with Claire Hampton and brought the score to 109 with some excellent fast running between the wickets taking every chance and putting enormous pressure on the fielding team. John Rennie, Alan Wilson and Katie Dewoyer all added runs taking the team total 129 for 8 off 20 overs. The top batsman was Emily Gibson with 21.

The CFPD XI scored consistently but remained behind the required run-rate. With over 20 runs needed from their last two overs, the game was still very much in the balance but superb bowling from John Rennie and Katie Dewoyer kept the CFPD team restricted to 107-8 after their 20 overs.

The No Limits team were thrilled to win by 22 runs. Bowling honours went to John and Katie who both took an impressive 2 wickets for 7 runs off their two overs. The entire team fielded extremely well, with James Sloane taking an outstanding ‘catch of the match’. Perth and Kinross, head coach, James Ross said “Our team put in a great performance against tough opposition and the players worked well as a team executing the skills they have worked on in training to a very high standard in competition.”

The Perth and Kinross Cricket Development team wishes to thank the Saints Academy for Inclusion for Sport, Perth and Kinross Council and Live Active Leisure for their continued support and funding of the No Limits team. New members aged 16+ with learning, sensory or physical disabilities are very welcome to take part in sessions which are held at Bell’s Sports Centre on Mondays from 11.15 – 12.15.
