Carlton and Stirling Victorious at Indoor Events
Carlton and Stirling County claim first honours of the 2015/16 season as record number of teams enter the November women’s indoor sixes event.
A total of 11 teams attended the two regional competitions; seven at Loretto School and four at Holyrood Sports Centre.
At Loretto School, the seven teams were split to form two groups with the top placing teams in each group progressing to the final. In group A, St Boswells cruised to victory over St Andrews University ‘B’ and fought off stiff competition from Edinburgh University ‘A’ to top their group.
In group B, Carlton showed their quality to progress to the final unbeaten, posting victories over Edinburgh University ‘B’, St Andrews University ‘B’ and local rivals Watsonians.
In the final St Boswells batting first, made a modest 40 runs in their allotted five overs. The Carlton batters rotated the strike well to reach the winning target score with an over to spare.
In the west, the four teams met at Holyrood Sports Centre in Glasgow. Ayr, Stirling and two teams from Galloway attended to make what was an exciting day of women's cricket played in a friendly and relaxed manner.
A round robin format allowed each team to play three games after which Stirling County were crowned the winners - deservedly so after a clean sweep, defeating all other teams.
It was great to see some new faces as well as some familiar ones and huge thanks must be paid to Debbie Noble and Fiona Sheridan who came along to support the event and who did a fantastic job at scoring and umpiring the games.
At both venues there was some incredible displays of skills in all areas - catches, bowling and the order of the day seemed to be sixes! All in attendance had a brilliant day and are looking forward to the next round of tournaments in January!
