Clydesdale claim 2014 Rowan Cup

Clydesdale took the Rowan Cup trophy back to Titwood for the first time in three years after a supremely confident victory over a brave Prestwick at Shawholm on Thursday.

Prestwick won the toss under bright skies and with a good looking surface available they decided they would have first knock on the Poloc pitch.

Six overs later there were undoubtedly regrets as the innings stood in tatters at 29 for 5 and Clydesdale rampant.

Sensible batting from the tail though helped the Ayrshire side to 104 for 9 and some of the great and good in attendance amidst a healthy crowd thought it could be a competitive total.

Muhammed Awais didn't feel the same way and played the outstanding innings of the night as his high quality 50 led Clydesdale to an impressive victory with almost 7 overs to spare.

The strength in depth of Clydesdale was vital in securing the triumph and on the evening they were thoroughly deserving winners although Prestwick earned a lot of credit in fighting back after such a terrible start.

Thanks go to Murgitroyd for their continuing generous sponsorship of Scottish cricket, Poloc CC for being excellent hosts once again, Colin Neil for a masterfully accomplished performance as emcee and Davie Barr of Renfrew who was delighted to present the trophy to skipper Zeeshan Bashir on behalf of a jubilant and deserving Clydesdale team.
