Dutch take T20 honours

18 Jul

Following on from the previous days 50 over matches the four teams once again competed in the Scot-Dutch competition at Amstelveen and Ayr respectively, this time in two T20 fixtures.

In Ayr the Reivers won the toss and elected to bat first but struggled to post a score that would trouble their Dutch counterparts.

Moneeb Iqbal top-scored for the Scots with 34, while Edgar Schiferli troubled the batsmen with figures of 3-26 as the Reivers could only muster 105/7 from their allotted 20 overs.

In reply Wesley Barresi smashed an unbeaten 44 and together with Stokkers (35) made short work of the total chasing down the Reivers score with 5 balls remaining.

In the other T20 fixture played in Amstelveen, a total of 330 runs were scored by the North Holland Hurricanes and the Highlanders. The home side gained some revenge after their comprehensive defeat to the Scottish side the previous day.

It was two experienced internationalists that scorned the Scottish bowlers, as Eric Szarzcynski thumped 75 while the Dutch captain Peter Borren hit an impressive 60 runs from 28 balls, to ensure the Hurricanes finished on 187/4.

The Highlanders reply saw some excellent hitting by George Munsay and Michael Leask keep up with the asking rate for a number of overs to give the Scots hope. However, once both had departed none of the other batsmen could sustain the rate required – eventually bowled out for 143- 44 runs short of their target.

At the conclusion of the series Cricket Scotland Performance Director Andy Tennant commented, "We were very happy with the quality Pro Series Challenge matches. Both our teams performed extremely well in the Pro 50 matches, particularly the Highlanders, who blew away a very strong Hurricanes ream in Amsterdam.

Obviously we were disappointed not to back up those performances in the T20's but if anything the results show how competitive these games were and hopefully this augers well for the future of this concept."
