East of Scotland register first Regional win
The highly anticipated women’s regional series got underway on Sunday 24th April at New Williamfield, Stirling when the East of Scotland played the Rest of Scotland.
East captain Kathryn Bryce won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. Openers Annette Drummond and Riti Patel put on a solid opening partnership of 45 before Patel was out bowled by Laura Grant for 8.
Captain Bryce’s innings was sort lived as she was caught at gully by Ellen Watson for 1 of the bowling on Lois Wilkinson. Ollie Rae departed for a second ball duck to Wilkinson too and left the East at 49-3 after 10 overs.
Sarah Bryce joined Drummond and together put on a 92 run partnership in 18 overs, both players scoring freely and punishing any loose bowling. Drummond was out for 61, LBW to Rachel Scholes and when Sarah Bryce was run out for 70 the scoring rate slowed up. The East were eventually all out for 216 in the 48th over with Rachel Scholes picking up 4-24 in an 8 over spell.
Scholes and Watson opened the innings for the Rest of Scotland but were quickly in trouble when Ruth Willis bowled Watson in the 2nd over. Scholes and Liz Priddle put on 32 for the 2nd wicket but when Scholes was out for 13 the Rest looked to be in a bit of bother.
Willis and Alice Baldwin made sure runs were hard to come by and the introduction of Katie McGill and Kathryn Bryce saw the pressure get too much and wickets started to fall.
Lorna Jack made a busy 55, and her partnership of 81 with Isobel Couttie made sure that the Rest of Scotland stayed in the game, but when both were out in quick succession the innings quickly finished with the Rest of Scotland finishing on 148-9 with Rosy Ryan unable to bat due to injury.
The East of Scotland winning the first game by 69 runs.
