Eastern Knights Win First Regional Encounter
Eastern Knights Under-15s won by 155 runs.
The Eastern Knights Under-15s claimed victory in the first Inter-Regional match of the season as they convincingly defeated the Western Warriors at Myreside. After losing the toss, the Warriors took early control of the match as they removed three Eastern batters for just 29 runs, with Humza Sabri picking up two in three balls. However, Rory Evans and captain James Dickinson steadied the ship, adding 43 before Dickinson (23) was well caught in the covers off the bowling of leg spinner Greg Anderson.
Anderson picked up another wicket shortly after, before Evans (42 from 77 balls) was joined at the crease by Ben Falconer. The two ran well between the wickets and added 42 to lift the score to 121-6 after 30 overs. With the game in the balance, Tom Dryden then joined Falconer, and the pair batted beautifully, punishing any bad balls and running hard for the remaining 20 overs. Both passed 50 in a partnership worth 113, with Dryden’s 57 coming from just 71 balls (8 fours) and Falconer’s 50 coming from 75 balls (6 fours). The Knights finished on an impressive 234-6 from their 50 overs.
In response, the Warriors got off to a bad start as Eastern openers, Euan Dawtrey and Finlay McCreath, took a wicket apiece, and Ben Falconer produced a superb piece of fielding to run out Harry Briggs. Sabri followed shortly after, leaving the Warriors struggling on 29-4. A brief partnership between Ivan Craig and Cameron Horne gave the visitors some hope, but the introduction of spinners Keshav Arvind and Rory Allardice had an immediate effect, and both picked up wickets at regular intervals with the help of some sharp catches. Allardice was the pick of the Eastern bowlers, finishing with 4-15.
The Warriors finished on 79 all out from 31 overs, giving the Eastern Knights victory by 155 runs. The visitors will have an opportunity for revenge on 9th June when they host the Knights at Titwood in the second match of the Under-15 Inter-Regional series.
