ECB U17 Two Day County Championships
The Cricket Scotland Under 17 Squad returned Saturday past after a successful two week tour down south playing four two day ECB U17 County Championship matches against Northumberland, Lincolnshire, Cumbria and Leicestershire.
All sixteen players in the squads did Scotland proud, not only by their sportsmanship and all round conduct and respect for all the opponents and officials but they went on to win their division, winning (on first innings) three and drawing one.
The Squad in their four matches amassed 1338 runs at average of 334 runs per innings with a loss of nine wickets, scoring over three hundred runs per innings and not conceding ten wickets in any match, this alone gave confidence to the whole squad in that all contributed at and when required.
We only conceded an average of 256 runs for nine wickets, bowling two of the sides out. The only blip in the trip was at Lincolnshire, on a good flat (road as they say) wicket where we scored 397 in the days 102 overs but could not bowl out the opponents who finished at 315 for 6 in 97 overs.
The great prize was the defeat of Leicestershire, the only full County side who were favourites for the division, winning the toss and inserting, bowling them out for 183 in sixty overs, then going on to score 304 for 9.
The batsmen as a group from 1 to 16 all did there bit either scoring the runs to bowl against to getting over the line to win on first innings, Muhammad Azeem Dar led the pack scoring an average of 86, followed by Neil Flack 54, Harris Carnegie 43, Jack Waller 36, Ruari Macpherson 31, Ben Wilkinson 30 and Ryan Brown chipping in with 83* against Lincolnshire.
Again the bowlers as a group worked hard on all the good pitches we encountered. The seamers picking up the majority of wickets, Cameron Sloman 7, Adil Ghaffar 5, and Ryan west and Scott Cameron with 4 each, but our spinners were best with gross figures of Mitchell Rao 56-22-6-140(2.5) and Ryan Brown 52-20-4-81(1.56).
