Edinburgh Win Dollar Indoor Tournament

24 Mar

Indoor cricket has always been popular with ladies teams throughout Scotland, and Sunday’s indoor tournament held at Dollar Academy was no different!

Eight teams were split into two groups of four with a round robin format in the initial stages of the competition.

In Group A, the young St. Boswells team and Stirling County 1 proved to be the teams to beat.  St. Boswells Jo Dixon was explosive form, hitting a number of sixes and fours, which helped swing the two matches against Royal High Corstorphine and Glasgow Accies in the southerners favour.

St. Boswells went on to meet Stirling County 1 in a Group A decider.  Stirling County 1 proved to be too strong for St. Boswells, to take top spot.

Group B proved to be a much tighter affair with Carlton, Stirling County 2 and Edinburgh University all winning two group games each.  In the end the number of wickets taken by each team was required to calculate the final group standings, with the University progressing to the next round.

Ayr and Glasgow Accies produced a scintillating 7th/8th play-off, as Glasgow Accies claimed the victory with 2 balls to spare!

Carlton and Royal High Corstorphine played in the 5th/6th play off on the adjacent pitch - Carlton’s big hitters secured the win with 9 balls to go, after successfully chasing down 59.

Edinburgh University overcame St. Boswells in the first semi-final, with Katie McGill and Becca Oliver guiding the University girl’s home to claim their place in the final.

In the second semi-final the two teams from Stirling County played each other.  Stirling County 2 managed an under par 41 from 5 overs. Stirling County 1 produced a solid run chase to wrap up the win with 9 balls to spare.

The final was a high scoring affair with Edinburgh University blasting 85 from their allotted 5 overs, helped along the way with nine sixes.  This caused the Stirling batters to throw caution to the wind in their attempt to chase down the runs, but ultimately finished 12 runs short in the end.

Congratulations to Edinburgh University who were deserved winners on the day.

Thanks to Kathryn White, Colin Finlay and Andy Carswell for helping with the scoring and the umpiring on the day.

The final indoor competition will take place at MES Sports Centre on Sunday 27th April. To enter a team contact Kari Carswell on email karicarswell@cricketscotland.com
