First aid course for WRDC
There was an exciting, new addition to the West Regional Development Centre (WRDC) winter training programme – with the players in the programme having the opportunity to attend a First Aid course, on Sunday 7th February 2016.
The course only became possible following discussions, and partnership working, with C.H.S. Training – the company which has been providing First Aid courses for Cricket Scotland in the west region for the last four years. There was no cost to the seven players who opted to attend the course, largely thanks to funding support from the Sports Council for Glasgow (through their General Grant scheme).
The course itself, delivered by tutor Gill McElnea (a player at, and a key driver behind the Ladies Section of, Ayr Cricket Club), covered the same content as the ‘adult’ course but was specially designed with the young participants in mind.
As an organisation which delivers regional coaching, ensuring our coaches have up to date First Aid qualifications (and other appropriate qualifications) is a necessity. However, providing the players in the programme with access to a First Aid course was something very new and very different - and an opportunity which appeared to be well received by those players in the 2015/2016 Winter Training Squad who were able to attend on the day.
