First Tour Match for U19s
Sri Lanka Board XI 237/9, 50 overs: Sandamal 57, Rathnayake 52, Gossain 3/27, Alexander 2/28, Main 2/37 beat Scotland U19s 183ao by 54 runs
Scotland U19s played the initial match of their tour to Sri Lanka against a Sri Lankan Board XI in Colombo earlier today (25/3/2013).
It was a chance for the Scottish youngsters to get an idea of the conditions they will be competing in over the next few weeks as the Board XI batted first on a warm and sunny day in the capital.
The Board XI laid a solid foundation with the bat, with Sandamal and Rathnayake both scoring half centuries to set the Scots a total of 237/9 after their allotted 50 overs.
Chayank Gosain’s left arm spin did the damage for the U19s, claiming 3 wickets and only conceding 27 runs. He was backed up by the bowling of Niall Alexander and Gavin Main who took 2 wickets each.
If the visiting youngsters were wondering what sort of bowling they would encounter on their tour to the sub-continent, they were soon to be enlightened as they proceeded to face 40 overs of spin.
Ross McLean’s 45 runs along with 44 by Alex Baum looked to chase down the total, but they were thwarted by a 5 wicket haul from promising youngster Angelo to end up 54 runs short of the target.
