First women's indoor tournament in 2016 a success

25 Jan

The first women’s indoor tournaments of 2016 took place on Sunday 24 January, with one tournament held at Loretto, Edinburgh and the other at the David Keswick Centre, Dumfries.

Both tournaments had four teams and played a round robin format.  Teams placed in the top 2 played in the final, those that finished in the 3rd & 4th places played a play off to determine final standings.

Teams for Edinburgh University (x2), St. Andrew’s University and St. Boswells CC played at Loretto while teams from Galloway (x2), Stirling County and a mixed team from Ayr and Poloc played in the tournament in Dumfries.

St. Andrew’s University and Galloway (Swans) took the plaudits as they notched the first tournament win of the year.  At Loretto in the final St. Andrew’s chased down Edinburgh University’s total in the 4th over.  In Dumfries the 2 teams from Galloway CC, the Swans and the fire played in the final with the Swans reaching victory after 15 balls!

After the tournaments had finished Kari Carswell was delighted with the turn out “The tournaments are always popular and it’s great to see eight women’s teams playing over two venues.  We have two more tournaments before the start of the outdoor season and I expect them to be equally as busy.

The enthusiasm shown from everyone is amazing, the skill level increases all the time and the understanding of the game shows the great job our coaches are doing in the club environment”.

Thanks to all the teams for competing, Zoe Conway for running the tournament at Loretto, and everyone who umpired or scored a game.  Congratulations to St. Andrew’s University and Galloway CC.
