Garth stars as Ireland defeat Scotland
Scotland 52ao (19.5 overs) Priddle 23, Garth 4/8, lost to Ireland 53/2 (7.5 overs) Shillington 31* by 8 wickets.
Scotland took on Ireland in the second fixture of the ICC Women’s Division 1 Championship at Rugby on Wednesday morning.
The Scots suffered the worst possible start with the bat as a flurry of wickets fell. Opener Annette Drummond found the fielder in the covers, before Fiona Urquhart was bowled, and the hero from the previous day, Rachel Scholes, was deceived by a delivery by Louise McCarthy, with the score showing 3/3 after 2.3 overs.
Liz Priddle was the mainstay of the Scotland innings with 23 from 34 balls, but unfortunately for the Wildcats, no one could provide any sort of support as the wickets continued to tumble.
Scotland managed to reach 52 before Lorna Jack was clean bowled by Garth, who was pick of the bowlers finishing with figures of 4/8, to give Ireland the upper-hand.
The Irish then produced a solid performance in reply, with Clare Shillington finding the boundary on seven occasions, and although the Scots claimed the wickets of Kavanagh and Delaney, Ireland were able to cruise to the target with 12.1 overs remaining.
Scotland will get their opportunity to bounce back against the Netherlands tomorrow, before a double header against the Dutch and Irish on Friday.
