Women's cricket set for cash boost
Through a sponsorship agreement between Witherby Publishing Group and Sportscotland’s sportsmatch programme, grass roots girls' cricket will get a serious funding boost.
Witherby Publishing Group has been a big supporter of women’s cricket in Scotland in recent years. The funding will help improve and develop access to cricket for girls at primary and secondary school level.
Through working with Cricket Scotland’s development staff, clubs and various development groups, Kari Carswell Women’s Cricket Manager at Cricket Scotland is positive about the programme, “This a good boost for grass roots girls cricket in Scotland. It will be an excellent opportunity to organise and run some girls only activity.
Girls already get a taste of cricket through the Summer Squad programme but by using some of the national team players, who I have no doubt will be excellent role models for these young girls, I’m hoping that we see a good transition between the schools and the clubs”.
Kat Heathcote from Witherby Publishing Group is optimistic that the funding will make a difference “After coming in contact with Scottish girls' and women's cricket through the involvement of one of our children, we became aware of its 'poorer relative' status (not just in Scotland, but throughout the world).
As owners of a small company with a limited funding ability, we are keen to make sure that every pound we provide makes a real and visible positive difference. Watching women's and girls' cricket develop in Scotland over the last 2 years, under the excellent and committed custody of Kari Carswell, we are confident that this has been the case and delighted to have been able to play a small part in supporting the continuing success story”.
