Highlanders defeat Knights in U18 Inter-regional
Caledonian Highlanders U18 v Eastern Knights U18, Peoples Park, Dyce, Tuesday 17th June 2014 as the Highlanders opened their 2014 campaign with a hard earned win over their East counterparts.
Caley skipper Blair Carnegie won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first, a decision that paid off from the outset with a succession of early wickets that had East struggling at 49 for 5.
A 35 run partnership between Aslam (18) and Player (19) restored some order before wickets fell again, a 34 run partnership for Sloman (13) and Anderson (17) arresting a further slide before two quick wickets saw the innings close on 140 in the 37th over.
A good bowling performance from the Highlanders with wickets shared around, Brown (3-28), S. Cameron (2-13) Critchley (2-20) being the best of the bunch.
In reply Highlanders enjoyed a solid start with Critchley (15) and S. Cameron (32) sharing a 62 run opening partnership before wickets started falling every ten runs or so with the middle order contributing very little, Wilkinson (25) steadied the ship before H.Carnegie (11) and Brown (19) saw it through in the 41st over with 4 wickets in hand.
Watt (2-21) and Allardice (4-27) shone with the ball for East but the stability at the top of the order with the one decent partnership for Caledonia proved to be the difference on the day.
