Highlanders spoil Knights Party
The Caledonian Highlanders won a sensational final T20 Blitz match by one run last night at the Grange. Their victory dented the Knights perfect record in both white ball formats, but came too late to prevent the men from the East picking up the T20 Blitz Trophy from CS President Bruce Dixon at the end of the match.
The Highlanders got off to a fantastic start, with captain and T20 star batsman Craig Wallace (44) taking advantage of the power play overs leaving the Highlanders well placed at 110 for 4 at the halfway mark in their innings. However, a fine spell of spin bowling from eventual Man of the Match Tom Sole (4-17) pegged back the second half of the innings, with Caley being dismissed for 151 in the final over.
The Knights looked well placed to maintain their 100% record with a fine half century by Melbourne Rengades Big Bash star Tom Beaton leaving them well in control. However, some fine bowling and a late flurry of wickets saw the Edinburgh men fall agonisingly one run short, despite a quick fire 17 not out from Sole at the end.
The two teams will meet again in the final match of the Pro 50 Cup competition on Sunday 10th July at the same venue, when the Highlanders will hope to repeat their spoiling act from the Knights second victory parade of what has been an excellent Regional season.
