Highlanders u15s secure win over Knights u15s
Another Inter-Regional game and another fine day, with Stoneywood-Dyce being the host for the first clash of the season between the Caledonian Highlanders and the Eastern Knights.
Rory Johnston won the toss and asked the Knights to bat first which looked to be the correct decision as Hughes Gillin took 2 wickets in the 3rd over.
With Kaleem Baretto keeping things tight at the other end Hughes continued to attack and was rewarded with 3 more quick wickets to leave the Knights reeling on 16 for 5.
Jamie Crawley and Rory Evans then began the rebuilding task, but the introduction of Niall Critchleys controlled swing meant Jamie chipped a ball to captain Johnston and the score was now 30 for 6.
Tom Dryden helped Rory take the score to 51 before he became Nialls second victim. Aaron Graysons leg spin accounted for the next wicket of Chris Miller withe score on 74.
Rory and Ewan Dawtrey batted well until the re-introduction of Gillin (6 for 19) and Critchley (3 for 9) meant the innings was wrapped up with the score on 126.
Rory Evans performed well when his team were in real trouble and was last man out for 42.
After a fine tea the Highlanders got off to a steady start with Niall Critchley and Rory Johnston taking the score onto 33 in the 11th over before Niall was well caught by the the keeper off Rory Allardice.
Rory Johnston was also caught shortly afterwards for a well made 22 also from the bowling of Rory Allardice who was looking the Knights dangerman at this point.
This left Fred Culley and Aadam Shah to take up the challenge and this they did with some good running and punishing the bad ball helped the pair take the score onto 113 before Aadam was bowled.
Harris Carnegie came in and finished the game off in double quick time with some powerful blows.
This was a good start for the Highlanders, but the Knights will be looking for swift revenge when the Highlanders visit Edinburgh in 2 weeks time.
