Ireland U19s won the toss and captain Tector decided to bat first on an overcast morning with a bit of drizzle in the air.

James McCollum was the mainstay of the Irish innings, making his way to a composed 80 from 114 balls, his stand-out performance contained

Dylan Budge had produced an impressive opening burst as his five overs went for a miserly 6 runs.

McCollum found help from a number of his colleges in green, with six other batsmen all reaching double figures. Wicket-keeper Tucker (28) helped push the score past 200, before falling in the final over as Ireland set a competitive 206 to win.

The hosts soon found themselves up against it in their reply as Andrew Umeed and Chris Cash were both dismissed without scoring. A spirited 25 from Kilmarnock’s Azeem Dar helped get things back on track, but Scottish wickets continued to fall.

Will Edwards, who was part of Scotland’s recent U19 World Cup squad, then looked to snatch the game away from Ireland with a feisty half century.

Abdul Sabri and Mark Watt couldn’t stay with Edwards, as the home side finished 19 runs short, when Gamble claimed the final Scottish wicket – giving Ireland their first win over Scotland at U19 level since 2011.

The two teams will now meet again at Ayr on Wednesday.
