Ireland seal I-Cup win

16 Sep

Ireland completed a comfortable win in the Intercontinental Cup against Scotland on Saturday to give the hosts a victory by an innings and 44 runs.

Following Irelands lead of 212 in the first innings, Scotland struggled with the bat in their second attempt and despite a 79-run partnership between Safyann Sharif and Majid Haq late on day 3.

Max Sorensen had been the stand out bowler for Ireland as he ripped through Scotland’s batting line up to record a five-wicket haul and leave Scotland with only two wickets remaining going into the final morning of play.

It didn’t take Ireland long to claim the remaining wickets to conclude a comprehensive victory in the four day format.

The win increased Ireland's lead at the top of the Intercontinental Table to 22 points, and marked a successful summer for the hosts after they also sealed the World Club Championship in Belfast last week, by defeating Scotland.

The result also ensured that Ireland will play Afghanistan in the final of the competition, where even a draw will be enough for them to take home the trophy since they topped the table.
