Murphy catches Devcich from Leask's bowling

New Zealand A 91/1 (8.3 overs) Devcich 36 - Match Abandoned. [Scorecard]

The final fixture of the three match series between Scotland and New Zealand A was curtailed by the weather gods in dramatic fashion after a frenetic 8.3 overs at the Grange.

Play eventually got underway at 3:20pm after Edinburgh awoke to persistent rain. The toss did take place at 1pm, but another heavy shower soon put an end to any prospect of play for a few hours while the clean-up job began.

BJ Watling, who has won the last 7 out of 8 tosses, called correctly once again and elected to bat first. Anton Devcich opened with Tom Latham and both took the attack to the Scotland bowlers, who seemed to having difficulty in gripping the wet ball during the opening overs.

Devcich displayed some brutal hitting, as the Blackcaps made their way to 48 after the first 4 overs. Scotland did eventually snare the dangerman, opting for a change of pace, throwing the ball to Michal Leask. Devcich looked to cut, but only succeeded in feathering a bottom edge to David Murphy behind the stumps.

The cricket then took a back seat as the dark moody clouds once again returned to ruin the spectacle as forks of lighting could be seen in the distance.

With lighting usually comes rain, and this was to be no different, just as Latham launched a Evans delivery into the tennis courts.

Heavy rain and hail then followed, before the match was eventually abandoned with the scoreboard reading 91/1 in the 9th over, with Latham on 24, and Brownlie on 23, to conclude the series.
