Matthew Maynard Joins Scotland For Batting Camp
Cricket Scotland is delighted to announce that Matt Maynard will provide additional specialist coaching support during a nine day intensive batting camp at the ICC Academy in Dubai.
Maynard, who has recently been appointed as the new Somerset CCC Director of Cricket, will assist with Scotland’s preparations for the 2015 ICC World Cup in New Zealand and Australia during the camp, which starts 11th November.
His involvement has been made possible thanks to the additional targeted support under the ICC High Performance Programme.
As a player, Maynard captained Glamorgan - the club he served for twenty years - to their very first Championship title in 1997, before becoming the county's record century-maker in 2004. His attacking batting prowess ensured he would gain Test and One Day recognition with England.
The Scotland team will undoubtedly be tested against high quality spin and swinging pace when they perform on cricket’s biggest stage, and this batting camp will allow the batsmen to target specific areas of their game, with input from the highly respected Maynard.
On his appointment Matthew Maynard commented, “I’m delighted to be able to join up with Cricket Scotland to help the boys prepare for the 2015 Cricket World Cup. It is an exciting time for Cricket Scotland and the camp in Dubai will offer a great learning experience for the players and coaches alike.”
Scotland Head Coach Grant Bradburn also added, “We’re delighted to welcome Matt to the Scotland set-up for the batting camp at the ICC Academy in Dubai. With his excellent track record it’s a great opportunity for the players to work on different aspects of their batting, furthering the learning process of what we have gained during our current tour to Australia and New Zealand.”
